Posilock Closed Refuelling System
Kowloon Motor Bus, Hong Kong

KOWLOON Motor Bus - one of the world’s largest urban bus companies, approached Moretech almost 20 years ago asking for help solving a serious fleet refuelling problem with one of its city depots holding 1,000 buses.

Operational demands pressed the refuellers into getting the maximum fuel load into every vehicle every night - with consequent high spillage rates leading to potential pollution hazards and a wastage.

Moretech was able to offer the Posilock fleet refuelling system and worked through a series of prototype evaluations to a retro-fit programme on more than 1,500 buses.

The new Posilock fleet refuelling system completely eliminated spillage, removed pollution hazards and met operational requirements for high-fuelling loads in an intense urban bus operation.

Such was the success of the Posilock system that KMB now specifies it on all new vehicles.

Kowloon Motor Bus continues to specify Posilock to this day for its whole fleet of more 5,000 buses which are refuelled nightly, quickly and without spillage and pollution.

Kowloon has been joined by the other major bus operators in Hong Kong and around the world – enjoying the many benefits that Posilock brings to the daily refuelling routine.

Ultra POD Charging Shoe
Heathrow Airport, UK

MORETECH was approached by the company creating the autonomous, driverless electric pods for Heathrow Airport back in 2006.

They asked us to design and create the charging shoes for the vehicles - plates that re-charge the vehicle’s battery every time it reaches a drop-off or stop point on its journey transporting passengers.

The original plans were complicated and featured countless parts.

Moretech re-designed the shoe, reducing the number of components from around 50 to just a handful.

Not only did this reduce production costs, but also meant there were less parts to go wrong or wear out.

Simple effective engineering to deliver outstanding results.

The charging shoes have been in use at Heathrow since early 2007, while an updated and improved version - again engineered by Moretech at the request of Heathrow - was rolled out in late 2017 following two years of creation and live testing.

“There is limitless potential for these charging shoes, and similar products, as the world enters an electric revolution,” said Engineering Manager, John Appleboam.

Bespoke Waterless Coolant System
Volvo, UK

LONGSTANDING clients Volvo needed a coolant system in a hurry - and immediately turned to Moretch to resolve the issue.

Volvo was introducing a new, waterless coolant system in some of its buses, but needed a bespoke solution to stop the wrong coolant going into the wrong vehicle.

As the global suppliers of the market-leading Posilock bus refuelling system, and the smaller AdBlue additive delivery system, the Moretech design team established that a re-design of the AdBlue system would be the perfect solution for Volvo.

The project involved a complete redesign of many AdBlue parts, creating a fool-proof solution that makes it impossible to put water into a waterless system and vice-versa.

The closed-system threw up one critical problem – there was nowhere for the air inside to escape.

​Moretech quickly set about resolving the issue; creating a bespoke air flow within the delivery hose.

Simple and effective, the coolant is delivered down one section of the hose, while the air is allowed back up through a separate outlet and vented through the nozzle.

Moretech was able to deliver the finished product to a very happy Volvo within 12 weeks.  

Airport fire engines
Rosenbauer, Austria

MORETECH’S unrivalled experience when it comes to manufacturing windscreen wiper systems led to a partnership with Austrian firm Rosenbauer – specialist manufacturers of large, bespoke fire-fighting vehicles typically used at airports.

The sheer size of the fire engines’ windscreens offered up the first problem – solved by Moretech with a three-wiper system, each wiper being one metre long.

The wiper blades and motors are sourced from other specialist companies, but Moretech designs and engineers all in between – the linkages, cranks, crank assemblies and tie rods – to ensure the system runs like clockwork.

The Rosenbauer fire engines also feature a glass vision panel in the roof of the vehicle so the firefighters can see what is happening above when they are underneath planes.

With foam crashing down on the roof screen, the vehicles also need a wiper blade system here too.

The logistics of this are not difficult – but did offer up a problem – the motors used to power the roof wiper system were no longer in production.

​Moretech was able to track down a company in France who made a similar motor and then set about redesigning and engineering the new bespoke motor which is used in Rosenbauer fire engines to this day.

Posilock retro-fit
First Group, UK

FIRST Group Essex had long been harboring desires of fitting its fleet of buses with the Posilock refuelling system - responsible for massive reductions in refuelling times and fuel wastage and contamination across the globe.

So, when crisis struck, the company immediately seized the opportunity to fit its entire fleet of buses with Posilock under the guidance and expert assistance of Moretech.

The crisis for First Group Essex was that its buses were taking so long to refuel that a queue of vehicles was spilling out onto the public highway - and the local council was demanding action.

Moretech had the answer - designing and fitting bespoke retro-fit Posilock systems for the firm’s three different types of buses.

Refuelling times were slashed to around three minutes from the previous 12 to 14 minutes.

That meant a huge time saving across the fleet and an end to the crisis of blocking the highway.

“They were delighted and couldn’t believe just how quick it was to refuel each bus,” Moretech's Engineering Manager John Appleboam said.

“The buses were refuelled before they thought the process had even begun.”

First Group now specifies that all new buses are fitted with Posilock before they are put into service.

Fuel anti-syphon device
Volvo, UK

MORETECH continues to create bespoke engineering solutions for Volvo UK, its long association with the company now running to more than 15 years.

The vehicle manufacturing giant came to Moretech with a brief - this was to create an anti-syphon device for its commercial vehicle fleet.

Volvo needed a solution to prevent fuel theft, while still enabling quick and spill-free refuelling for its fleet of vehicles.

Thanks to Moretech’s vast experience handling low volume, high quality design solutions, the team had the answer.

Moretech engineered a small plate across the bottom section of the filling pipe.

It featured a smart design of radial slots to ensure as much fuel could flow through as possible on its way to the tank, while preventing syphon access.

Simple, but ingenious – and offering 80 per cent fuel flow to ensure filling speeds remained high.

“We have been working for Volvo for around 15 years and they trust us with providing quick solutions to problems that could take much longer to resolve,” Moretech's  General Manager David Fitzsimmons said.
